Since 1996 the association has been intensively working with young people in territorial projects with the aim of developing the community links and cultural promotion in the Council of the 6th. District of Rome, a disadvantaged neighbourhood of the roman outskirts. Since 1997 the association is organising the projects of the Polyvalent Centre "Fatamorgana" and Street Unity "StradArte" financed through the law L.284797 of which the main objectives could be the following :
- To promote the growth and the individual development of the young people inside the community to where they belong.
- To open personal ambition of expression and empowerment, in order to developing the growth of individual group.
- To valorise the discovery of cultures and life styles which are different to the one already known by the young people.
- To stimulate young people through games, arts (music, theatre, video), sport and intercultural activities.
The Youth Centre is structured in the following way:
- a meeting space (for socialising and individual activities)
- an experimental space (expressive and cultural workshops, sport activities, a music room, organisation of parties and events and so on)
- space for active participation ( projects and individual projects inside of a group)
The active methods education aims to create and educational space where the skills, energy and responsibility of the youngster may encrease and become project and action for other young people.
The educators try not to have a central role and give the young the opportunity to express themselves and to be in charge of both cultural and organisation side of the activities.
The "street unit" works outside the centre and meet young people directly in their meeting points in the street offering the opportunity to act together for the construction of arts and cultural activities.************************************************************************* TASKS - The volunteers will be shown all the various projects that the Cemea del Mezzogiorno carries out in the 6th Municipality of Rome, in order to underline the specificity of every situation, but he/her will follow only one project in order to make the volunteering experience more concentrated and incisive.This will allow the improvement of language and practical skills as well as of interpersonal skills, always in relationship with the work team and the public of the projects (children and teenagers).· Meetings with the work team (4 hours a week)
The volunteer is expected to participate in the staff meetings (4 hours) in order to favour his/her integration into the work group and to facilitate the learning/understanding of the activities in which the volunteer is going to be involved. Furthermore, he/she can divide his/her experiences and feelings with the other European volunteers who are already participating in the projects and who can give him/her an support.
The meetings are going to be held at the beginning and in the middle of the week in order to allow the volunteer to have an exact picture of the actual activities and to resolve together the volunteer the eventual difficulties.
· Meetings with tutor (3 hours a week)
The volunteer is going to meet regularly with her\his own tutor (3 hours) in order to:
Acclimatisation: personal support for the resolution of difficulties, listening and welcoming specified problems and support for their resolution, intercultural meetings, role plays.
· Youth House (9 hours a week)
Participation to the activities of the Youth House together young people, constantly supported by one or more members of the staff (creative workshop with arts, music, theatre, internet, role games, video, school bulletin, etc.); participation to the workshop organised in high schools about inter-culture, theatre, environment, video.
· Special activity /personal project (5 hours a week)
In order to give the volunteer the possibility to express him/herself, he she will be asked to create a personal project, in co- operation with the staff and the tutor (example: creation and building of games, starting a new workshop, etc.). This will enrich existing activities in the Youth House, leaving a steady sign of his/her presence in the project. In any case, if the volunteer doesn't have special skills or ideas to promote he/she will help in the realisation of games, information, and furthers activities of Youth House.
· Formation activities
This section includes the activities offered by the association to support the volunteer.
- Artistic workshops (6 hours a week)
The project gives the volunteer the possibility to participate in the Youth Club artistic workshops (music, theatre, video, etc.), in order to help her\him to meet people, express her\himself and get into everyday life in Rome. The workshops are free of charge. An active participation and a personal contribution is requested.
- Italian language (8 hours a week)
Participation to an Italian course and study of the language. It is a very important part of the project.
