May - July 2005 - S. Kelly Guttering, Labourer
The role of being a labour is both demanding and challenging. My main duties and responsibilities include:
Tending to the bricklayers, ensuring they had sufficient equipment to carry out their jobs
Working as part of an efficient and fast moving team, while at the same time it was necessary for me to use my initiative, an example of when I used my initiative was always making sure that I had all the tools and materials needed for the job ready and waiting for the team to use.
I had to perform various tasks that are associated with the building industry including operating heavy machinery and operating equipment like drills from a ladder.
This has provided me with valuable skills that will I find of use in future years. Including the ability to respond quickly and accurately to requests from my employer, strong physical endurance, has taught me the importance of maintaining a clean, tidy, hazard free and essentially an organised working zone.
October 2002 - May 2005 - Tesco, Limavady, General Assistant
My role as general assistant involved many tasks, including:
Stock control and replenishment
Acting as a point of contact for customers
Providing an ongoing, efficient, courteous, helpful and friendly customer service
Face to face customer interaction
Using my initiative at all times
Working as part of a large interdependent team
Merchandising
Responsibility of maintaining a clean and customer friendly shop floor
Check-out operator
The organisation of trolleys
Responsibility for large sums of cash
Promotion of store club cards
Assisting management in the daily running of the store
Performing all these duties in a busy environment
June - September 2004 - Benone Tourist Complex, Lifeguard
Summer employment only
This summer employment took place in a children orientated play area where there were several different zones. Each demanded constant supervision and attention at all times to ensure the area was safe, allowing for maximum enjoyment for all who visited. My role here included the following responsibilities:
Supervising the general play areas, these included: bouncy castle, play park and pool area
Maintaining a safe and hazard free environment by implementing no running zones, ensuring pool rules were adhered to and ensuring the safe use of all playing apparatus
Time sheet data input
Carrying out water tests for purity and making the required changes to keep the pool water at an optimum level
Maintaining the sanity of the general play areas which meant cleaning changing rooms and the area at the start and end of every shift.
Daily I worked alongside another lifeguard and a few general attendants and we had to organize daily tasks ourselves, I found that this has enhanced my team working skills.
July 2001 - October 2002 PizzaRoma, Limavady, Cashier
This was my first experience of working life and I found that the skills and experience I gained from this job have helped me throughout my career. My responsibilities included the following:
Ensuring the successful running of a busy restaurant
Direct contact with the public providing friendly and efficient service, dealing with phone orders, deliveries and money handling
Safely and hygienically preparing food
Maintaining a clean kitchen and ensuring all cooking utensils where thoroughly cleaned
