After Lisbon in 1998 and Panama City in 2001, Barcelona will host this third World Youth Festival, which aims to take a step forward in cooperation among youth organizations from around the world and bring together 10,000 young people from all the continents. The festival's motto is "Let's build the world".

ExTEND 2004 launched by JMI

ExTEND 2004 – the Experimental Transnational European Network Development , is a significant initiative launched by Jeunesses Musicales International.

ExTEND 2004 aims to strengthen the youth and music network in Europe, by creating a pan-European platform that will ensure the exchange of knowledge and practices between music organizations.

The project, largely funded by the EU DG Culture & Education (as part of the Culture 2000 pilot program), was launched end of December 2003 - with a first meeting of the co-organizers in January - and will run until 30th November 2004.

A survey on youth and music in Europe will lay the foundations of the European network.This research aims to assess the needs and interests of young people, define current trends as well as the priorities of music operators and educators. It will be based on 2000 responses in 27 countries in Europe.

The results of the research will be presented to all JMI sections and many other youth and cultural organizations, during the concluding conference in November in Brussels, Belgium. The final report published thereafter will incorporate the viewpoints of the participants of the conference, who will be invited to discuss the issues revealed by the survey.

Parallel to the survey, two European conferences and 4 workshops will be organized in order to exchange information and increase cooperation between local, national and European music operators, and ensure professionalism, training and transfer of know-how.

Europe, Youth and Globalisation - 5/9 May 2004 - Strasbourg - France

From the 5th to the 9th May 2004, the Directorate of Youth and Sport of the Council of Europe, in co-operation with the North-South Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity, will hold a large-scale youth event in Strasbourg, France, on the theme "Europe, Youth and Globalisation".
