25 Mar 04 - International Seminar : “ Acknowledging EVS Experience”

I’m Burais Vincent, EX-European Volunteer (Germany, sept. 2001/ march 2002).

I have achieved to validate this wonderful experience to enter a Social Work School in Tours and kept contact with the volunteers by being member of SVE-connexion.

In general, EVS is an intense and positve experience, however, very few institutions currently recognize the value of such a non-formal education experience.

For this reason, I have been working on a project aimed at European Volunteer Service’s validation.

The project :

It’s an international ex-volunteer’s seminar to evaluate EVS impact and the different skills developped .

  • STAJ Touraine, ( EVS sending organisation), accompain this project, providing a technical and pedagogical support. touraine@staj.asso.fr - www.staj.asso.fr

  • An ex-volunteer local group search on pedagogie and technical organisation.

  • Ex-volunteers organisations will be partners of this project because this subject has a major importance for every volunteer and the associations that represents them.

The date for the seminar is scheduled in September, in the Tours area.

Objectives of the seminar :

For the participants :

  • To be counscious of the different levels of skills and competences.

  • To evaluate their EVS experience and the impact in their life.

  • To create a document that summary the general and specific skills.

For every volunteers:

  • This document could help every volunteers to be conscious of the skills they developped.

  • To help them with valorisate their experience in their post-evs path.

For the EX-EVS associations:

  • Work together, get to know each other.

  • Participate to a project that supports the value of our experience and contributes to improve Post-EVS inclusion for every volunteer.

  • Validate their action concerning the volunteers and institutions.
